Prize Fighter - Senior Secondary

Melbourne International Arts Festival

"Prize Fighter is, in every respect, theatre that matters."

"Stunning blow from one-time boy soldier."

Melbourne International Arts Festival / La Boite Theatre

Take a ringside seat for a boxing match that will leave you reeling.

When Congolese refugee Isa pulls the gloves on, it seems any opponent can be taken on. Isa has been dubbed “the Killer” but the glare of the boxing ring lights isn’t enough to dispel the shadows of the past—as a child soldier forced to side with the very forces that massacred Isa’s family.

This is knockout theatre in every sense. From fight choreography so visceral you’ll feel every blow to writing that packs an emotional punch, Prize Fighter ducks and weaves with astonishing grace. The play marks the debut of Congolese-Australian writer Future D. Fidel and after raved about seasons finally steps through the ropes to stagger audiences in Melbourne.

A four time Helpmann award-winning production.
