A Deeply Moving Production
theatre-wales.co.uk

Fresh from its acclaimed season at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe, this immersive (and sometimes loud) production is about the journey of one larrikin Private Morris Powell, played by 20 yo Jayden Marshall. His story takes us from the streets of Melbourne where he signs up for an adventure, to the wilds of New Guinea where he confronts the horrors of the ruthless and imperialistic Japanese army as it sweeps through the South Pacific in 1942.

The battles along the Kokoda Track were as significant as any in this country’s history. The potential loss of Pt Moresby would have been a significant setback for allied air, sea and ground control of the region, opening up the potential for the invasion of Australia. Our former Prime Minister, Paul Keating, observed on the 50th anniversary of the campaign in 1992 that “these were the heroic days of Australia’s history”.

The production includes a complex soundscape and lighting design as well as use of archival video footage from the campaign. Teacher notes will be provided. A Q&A session can follow each performance.
