Let's hope the Prime Minister's commitment to education equality will translate into action. With dominance in Parliament, this is the opportunity to fund further reforms.
The coalition went to the election without an Arts Policy. The ALP introduced their policy "Revive" in 2023, $286 million over 4 years. They have delivered on 66 the Revive actions, but stalled on others. Current Minister Tony Burke said in April 2025, if ALP win the election, consultation on arts policy will begin immediately.
Arts workers are among the lowest paid workers in the nation. They earn an average of $13,937 from arts practice, so far below the minimum wage of $47,500. Under the previous coalition government, federal arts funding fell by 22% per capita.
For a sector that delivers $64 billion into the economy annually and contributes so much to national identity, artists will be pleased the coalition is not in power again.
