Presenter Profile

THE TROPPO TROUPE INC.

About

The Troppo Troupe is a non-for-profit artistic collective established in 2022 and based in Sydney Australia. We are passionate about acting and storytelling and are committed to the discipline involved in creating dynamic cultural narratives that leave the audience entertained but also educated. We are expert in COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE and we draw on our multilingual abilities (English, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, French and Arabic) to deliver a truly inclusive and accessible experience that embraces both an international and local worldview.

Company History

All our members have an Italian background and a strong desire to share their rich cultural knowledge and experiences with an Australian audience through performance. The artistic director comes from Torino, Italy and has for over twenty years been presenting aspects of Italian culture on stage and in writing, including performing and teaching Commedia dell’Arte since 2006. Other members possess years of experience studying performance and practicing in theatre troupes in both Australia and Italy.

Further Information

A special focus on the 16th century Italian theatrical tradition of Commedia dell’Arte is a large part of what we as actors and storytellers do. Commedia is an educational tool for artists to create, it is an innovative form that mixes both the modern and the classical and empowers the actor to create their own narrative through improvisation. We practice Commedia not out of the need to preserve what otherwise might be seen as a bygone relic of Italian culture and history, but because it proves to be a relevant and successful method for modern performance and acting.
This is why we offer full scale original, unscripted, Commedia dell’Arte shows and workshops for schools teaching drama and Italian (K-12). Our productions are a perfect learning introduction for students to the world of performance and Italian.
We also perform Commedia dell’Arte for general audiences. Our performances are offered in New South Wales, ACT and Victoria. All shows are fit with Renaissance costumes, handmade masks, painted sets, and a unique, strictly improvised acting style, in a pleasant mix of English and Italian.
