Brief
HOME (Is With My Family) is a show and workshop based around a song of the same name, written and presented by long-time children's performer, Jan 'Yarn' Wositsky, OAM.


Aimed at studies of family and local history at the Prep - Year2 level, it involves students singing and recording the song, writing their own personal and group lyrics and talking family history (and her story) stories. Students and teachers are left with song templates to use for further song writing, and with a recording of the students singing which they can add to and practice up for school occasions or just a show and tell.

How It works
Students are taught two songs; one about how we all have a story, and two, a song about family.

Using shirts printed with family pictures Jan ‘hangs out the washing’ and tells family stories from the song.

We talk about how to enquire of parents and grandparents about your family story.

With two students – a boy and a girl – we write and all sing a couple of simple verses about their particular family.

With the class we then write and sing a verse about their school and local district.

We record both songs for continued work in class with lyric templates and other activities/research to go on with.
