In a world premiere season directed by Emily McLean and Joe Paradise Lui, Unsung Heroes is a timely reminder of our shared humanity and our uniquely Western Australian identity, telling stories of courage, adventure, new beginnings, dignity - and life’s music.

It is a collection of tour-de-force solo performances featuring 5 untold stories about 5 extraordinary Western Australians delivered through a digital platform - Black Swan Home Theatre as a free event. Registrations are required.

SONG IN THE KEY OF TRUST written and performed by Mararo Wangai
This is the story of a musician who follows his passion for song from his land of birth in Mozambique to becoming a well-known musician who travels the world and lives in Fremantle.

THE PERFECT BOY written by Gita Bezard and performed by Caitlin Beresford-Ord
From the stages of Subiaco to international acclaim, The Perfect Boy is the story of Effie who became a world-famous male impersonator. Along her adventurous way she married a clown and had a long affair with a boxer.

THE UNREMARKABLE AND ORDINARY LIFE OF CARMELA CATERINA TASSONE
(NÉE PANAIA ) written and performed by Chris Isaacs

Chris Isaacs tells the story of his grandmother, an Italian immigrant who brought her strength of character, commitment to hard work and love of family to this country.

LESSON IN THE ART OF BUTTERFLY written by Hellie Turner and performed by Alison van Reeken
EMOTIVE CONTENT WARNING: Description of assisted death / dying.
This is the true story of Alida Lancee, the Perth doctor who came to the public’s attention after admitting that, when a terminal and suffering patient had requested assistance to die, she had, (after palliative treatments failed to help), then eventually agreed. Her actions galvanised the public debate on assisted dying in WA.

OWN WAY written by Barbara Hostalek and performed by Jo Morris
EMOTIVE CONTENT WARNING: Graphic descriptions of domestic / sexual / family violence.
She’s strong, she’s smart, she has a wicked sense of humour. Her story of survival has changed the law. Own Way is a true and honest story about Georgia Prideaux-Cera, who managed to get WA’s first ever lifetime restraining order against her abusive partner. It’s a harrowing story of survival against the violence of her attacks - which were spread over years, the worst of which happened after Georgia had left him.
