What an amazing moving account of a true family story. The incredible images, lyrics and accompaniment evoked so much emotion in all who were present. A talented musician and storyteller.

Vini Melzak's MARCHING IN YOUR SLEEP
An incredible tale of survival told in song, tracing the decade long journey a boy takes embarking with his sole possession, a harmonica. In a search for his brother he encounters the harsh realities of armed conflict and cold war. Written by Andrew Vincent Melzak, the narrative set in 1940s Eastern Europe covers the remarkable events in the life of a young man whose gift for music changes his whole destiny. The work compiles a backdrop of historical footage to retell a story that no longer has a living voice.

MARCHING IN YOUR SLEEP explores lost culture, refugees, persecution, rape, identity theft, stow-aways, starvation, smuggling, liquidation, genocide, armed conflict, mock trial & execution, child soldiers, POWs, the Gestapo, Soviet gulags, NVKD death squads and Cold War espionage in a decade of global turmoil.

‘Vini’ Melzak delivers a 50-minute performance combining live instrumentation and vocals with an original soundtrack and archival photographs from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Yad Vashem. He envelopes the audience in a multi-layered song-scape with mesmerising results. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiAYbjESU-8

The 'Pop Up' show can be situated virtually anywhere for small groups or classes with a solar powered portable display and mobile sound system made of repurposed and recycled material, and including live multi-instrumental accompaniment. Vini is a musician, producer and music teacher with over 30 years experience and is available to share his expertise on any aspect of the composition, technical production and his solo performance of the work. He also can speak anecdotally about the issues facing children caught in conflict and ways to help. A short Power-Point presentation is available as a Q&A discussion reference and classroom resource.

Proceeds from MARCHING IN YOUR SLEEP aid refugees and displaced children through organizations such as Rural Australians for Refugees and Save the Children.

Every attempt has been made to avoid graphic images of camp survivors, war and violence to children. However, some images are confronting and the story does touch on disturbing subjects such as racism, genocide, rape, armed conflict and death.
